Sept. 23, 2006

Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Junior wide receiver Ryan Maher (Boca Raton, Fla.) caught seven passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns, to lead the Holy Cross football team to a 27-0 victory over Marist at Leonidoff Field. The Crusader defense posted its first shutout since 2004 and held the Red Foxes to just 265 total yards, led by senior cornerback Casey Gough (Hinsdale, Ill.) with five tackles, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and an interception. Holy Cross improves to 2-2 on the season with the victory, while Marist falls to 1-3.

The Crusaders opened the scoring at the 6:55-mark of the first quarter on a five yard pass from junior quarterback Brian McSharry (Abington, Mass.) to Maher, after a Gough interception gave Holy Cross the ball at midfield. Early in the second quarter, the Crusaders increased their lead to 13-0 on a one-yard quarterback sneak by McSharry.

Holy Cross continued to dominate play in the third quarter, and would go up 20-0 on a 25-yard scoring pass from sophomore quarterback Dominic Randolph (Amelia, Ohio) to Maher. The Crusaders then concluded the scoring early in the fourth quarter, when McSharry hit junior wide receiver Thomas Harrison (Wilmington, N.C.) with an 18-yard touchdown pass.

McSharry completed 15 of 23 passes on the night for 139 yards, while Randolph hit on eight of 12 passes for 101 yards. Harrison posted a team-best eight receptions for 88 yards, while sophomore tailback Mike Kielt (Southbury, Conn.) rushed for 71 yards on 11 carries.

Defensively, senior linebacker Dan Adams (Springfield, Va.) and sophomore linebacker Brian Billman (Westerville, Ohio) tied for the team-lead with six tackles each. In addition, senior free safety Marc Crosby (Saratoga, Calif.) and junior cornerback Demetrick Perkins (Maplewood, N.J.) both recorded interceptions.

Holy Cross returns to action next Saturday, September 30, when it plays host to Fordham on Homecoming Weekend at 1:00 p.m.
