Milan Brown is in his fifth season as the head men’sbasketball coach at the College of the Holy Cross in 2014-2015. Heowns a 55-67 overall record during his time with the Crusaders, togo along with a 32-28 mark in Patriot League play.

During the 2013-2014 campaign, Brown led the Crusaders to anoverall record of 20-14, good for their first 20-win season since2006-2007. Holy Cross also placed third in the Patriot League witha 12-6 mark in conference games, and received an invitation to theCollegeInsider.com Tournament. Holy Cross’ 68-65 victory atBrown in the first round of the 2014 CIT was its first in anational postseason tournament since 2004-2005. Dave Dudzinski andMalcolm Miller both received All-Patriot League honors at the endof the season, with Dudzinski also being selected to the NABCAll-District team.

In 2012-2013, Brown’s squad went 8-6 in non-conferenceaction, good for the team’s first winning mark in non-leagueplay since 2007-2008. Holy Cross would finish the season with anoverall mark of 12-18 and a 4-10 record in the conference.Dudzinski earned All-Patriot League honors, and Cullen Hamilton wasselected to the Patriot League All-Rookie team.

During the 2011-2012 season, Brown led Holy Cross to an overallrecord of 15-14 and a fourth place finish in the Patriot Leaguewith a 9-5 mark in conference games. His team led the PatriotLeague in three-point field goal percentage defense (30.5 percent)and blocked shots (4.4 blocks per game), with Devin Brown earningAll-Patriot League honors and Justin Burrell being selected as thePatriot League Rookie of the Year.

During his first year with the Crusaders, Brown led the team toa third place finish in the Patriot League with a 7-7 mark inconference games. In addition, two of his players (Devin Brown andAndrew Keister) earned All-Patriot League honors in 2010-2011.

Prior to his time at Holy Cross, Brown spent seven seasons asthe head coach at Mount St. Mary’s. During his final threeyears with the Mountaineers, he led his squad to three straightwinning seasons and a pair of postseason appearances. Brown’steams posted a 54-44 record (.551) during those three years,including a 35-19 mark (.648) in Northeast Conference play. Defensewas a staple of Brown’s squads, as the Mountaineers allowedjust 64.7 points per game and 41.7 percent field goal shooting overa three-year span from 2007-2010, while holding their opposition tounder 70 points in 72 out of 98 games. During the 2007-2008campaign, Brown led Mount St. Mary’s to the first NCAADivision I Tournament victory in school history, with a 69-60 winover Coppin State in the opening round.

During the 2009-2010 season, Brown’s Mount St.Mary’s team posted an overall record of 16-15, and finishedthird in the Northeast Conference with a 12-6 mark in league games.The Mountaineers led the Northeast Conference and ranked 48th inthe nation by allowing only 63.2 points per game. Mount St.Mary’s also posted an 11-game winning streak from Jan.28-March 4, the second-longest streak in the school’sDivision I history, and advanced to the semifinals of the NortheastConference Tournament. In addition, the Mountaineers non-conferencestrength of schedule ranked as the 25th hardest in the nation.

In 2008-2009, Brown’s squad went 19-14 overall and 12-6 inthe Northeast Conference, placing second in the league. TheMountaineers advanced to the Northeast Conference championshipgame, before suffering a tough 48-46 loss on the road to RobertMorris. Mount St. Mary’s was then selected to play in theCollegeInsider.com Tournament, where it fell at James Madison 69-58in the first round.

During the 2007-2008 campaign, Brown led the Mountaineers totheir first winning record in 11 seasons, posting an overall markof 19-15. Mount St. Mary’s finished the regular season infourth place in the Northeast Conference with an 11-7 mark inleague games, before running off three straight victories to claimthe NEC Tournament title. Included during that tournament run werean 83-65 victory at Robert Morris in the semifinals, and a 68-55win at Sacred Heart in the championship game. The Mountaineers thentook down Coppin State (69-60) in the NCAA opening round, beforefalling to North Carolina (113-74) in their next game.

Brown took over as the head coach at Mount St. Mary’s in2003-2004, and led his team to its first Northeast ConferenceTournament appearance since 1998-1999 during his first season. Byhis third year in 2005-2006, the Mountaineers finished fourth inthe Northeast Conference with an 11-7 record, good for theirhighest finish in the league since 1996-1997. Following the2005-2006 campaign, Brown was selected as the NortheastConference’s Coach of the Year by College Insider. He thendirected Mount St. Mary’s to another fourth place finish inthe NEC in 2006-2007, with a 9-9 mark in conference games.

Before serving as the head coach at Mount St. Mary’s, Brownhad two stints as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers under JimPhelan. He was the associate head coach at Mount St. Mary’sduring the 2002-2003 campaign, after serving as an assistant coachfrom 1997-2000. During the 1998-1999 campaign, Brown helped leadthe Mountaineers to the Northeast Conference Tournament crown andan appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

From 2000-2002, Brown was an assistant coach at William &Mary under Rick Boyages. He previously served as an assistant underJeff Capel at Old Dominion from 1995-1997, helping lead theMonarchs to a combined record of 40-24 over two seasons. In1996-1997, the Monarchs won both the Colonial Athletic Associationregular season and tournament titles, and advanced to the NCAATournament. Brown began his coaching career in 1994-1995 as anassistant at Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va., where hehelped lead the team to a 23-7 record and the statechampionship.

A 1993 graduate of Howard University with a bachelor’sdegree in marketing, Brown earned All-Mid-Eastern AthleticConference honors his senior year after averaging 13.1 points and4.4 assists per game. He currently ranks second on theBison’s all-time career list for assists with 445, and scored1,102 career points. Brown led Howard to the Mid-Eastern AthleticConference regular season and tournament titles during the1991-1992 season, earning All-MEAC Tournament honors. He was thennamed the CBS Player of the Game for the Bison’s contest withKansas in the 1992 NCAA Tournament. Brown had his number at Howardretired in December of 2005.

The son of Charles and Pamela Brown, he is the oldest of threechildren. His brother, Morocco, played football at North CarolinaState, and is the director of pro personnel for the WashingtonRedskins. His other brother, Marseille, played basketball at bothRichmond and Hampton, advancing to the NCAA Tournament at eachschool.

Brown (who will turn 44 in January of 2015) and his wife Tinahave two daughters (Nyla and Sanaa).
