Jesse Monteiro joined the Holy Cross football program in 2024 as the team’s cornerbacks coach.
In his first season with the Crusaders, Monteiro helped Holy Cross earn a share of its sixth consecutive Patriot League Championship, with the team posting a 5-1 record in conference play.
Monteiro previously served as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts, working with the defensive backs. Monteiro aided in the development of two-time All-Conference honoree Tyler Rudolph.Â
Other UMass players who earned Phil Steele All-Independent honors under Monteiro’s guidance include Jordan Mahoney and Josh Wallace. Wallace went on to play with the 2023 national champion, Michigan, as a graduate transfer, earning All-Big Ten honors.Â
Prior to his time in Amherst, Monteiro was a member of the coaching staff at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Mass., serving as assistant defensive coordinator and working with the defensive backs. Catholic Memorial reached the state championship game in back-to-back seasons (2018, 2019) and won the Catholic Conference title in 2019.Â
At Catholic Memorial, Monteiro helped to develop and mentor numerous Division I student-athletes who went on to play at schools including Villanova, NC State, Boston College and Southern Utah.Â
Monteiro was a four-year member of the UMass football team, where he was a team captain in 2017 and earned Phil Steele second team All-Independent honors twice (2016, 2017) as a safety. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication with a concentration in education in December 2017.Â
