Cazzie Kosciolek

Cazzie Kosciolek is in his eighth year on Tom Gilmore’scoaching staff in 2014. Kosciolek will be in his seventh season asthe specials teams coordinator this year, and will also coach therunning backs after leading the wide receivers for the previous sixseasons.

During the 2010 campaign, Kosciolek’s special teams unitranked first in the Patriot League in kickoff returns (24.1 yards /return), punt returns (15.9 yards / return) and kickoff coverage(42.2 net yards / kickoff). A number of his wide receivers havealso enjoyed successful careers, including Holy Cross’all-time leading receiver Mike Fess, who was named All-PatriotLeague in both 2011 and 2013. Other wide outs to earnAll-Conference honors under Kosciolek’s direction includeGerald Mistretta (2011), Bill Edger (2010), Freddie Santana (2009and 2010), Luke Chmielinski (2009) and Jon Brock (2008).

Kosciolek has also coached a number of talented return men onspecial teams, including a pair of All-New England selections inBrett McDermott (2008) and Kalif Raymond (2012). Kosciolekpreviously served as the Crusaders’ running backs coach in2007.

Kosciolek came to Holy Cross from Newberry (S.C.) College, wherehe served as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coachduring the 2006 season. He helped lead the Indians to an 11-2record in 2006, including the first NCAA playoff appearance andvictory in school history. His offense averaged 392.3 yards and30.7 points per game, and ranked second in the nation with a 158.1pass efficiency rating.

Kosciolek also worked at Newberry during the 2005 season, as theoffensive line coach. He previously served as the offensivecoordinator and quarterbacks coach at Fort Scott (Kan.) CommunityCollege in 2004. From 2002-2003, Kosciolek was the offensive linecoach at Hofstra University. He began his coaching career at theUniversity of New Haven, where he served as the offensive line andwide receivers coach.

Kosciolek is a 1997 graduate of Boston University, where he wasa two-year letterwinner at quarterback. He was a member of the 1993Yankee Conference championship team, and played on squads whichmade two trips to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. He went on toplay his fifth year at the University of New Haven in 1997, leadingthe Chargers to an overall record of 13-2 and a trip to the NCAADivision II championship game. Kosciolek was named a first teamAll-American following the 1997 season, and finished third in thevoting for the Harlon Hill Trophy as the Division II Player of theYear. He was inducted into the New Haven Athletics Hall of Fame in2008.

A native of Summit Hill, Pa., Kosciolek and his wife, Christy,have two sons (Owen and Max).
