Anthony Witherstone

Anthony Witherstone enters his second season on the Holy Cross football staff in 2026, and his first year as defensive quality control coach and cornerbacks coach.

In his first season with the Crusaders as a special teams quality control coach in 2025, Witherstone also assisted with the cornerbacks. The Crusaders' special teams unit ranked first nationally in blocked putns, while ranking second in punt return touchdowns, blocked kicks and overall special teams touchdowns. He also aided in coaching and developing two All-Patriot League cornerbacks.

Witherstone spent six years at Merrimack College from 2017-2023, where he was a standout defensive back for current Holy Cross head coach Dan Curran. He appeared in 35 games with 24 starts during his tenure, totaling 74 tackles, four interceptions and two touchdowns. He was a team captain during the 2022 season, helping guide the program to an 8-3 overall record (6-1 in conference play).

In 2021, Witherstone graduated from Merrimack with a Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation science, and earned his Master’s in exercise and sports science in 2023.

After his time at Merrimack, Witherstone signed as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs, appearing in one preseason game prior to an injury. In 2024, he signed with both the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
