Gabe Ribas

Gabe Ribas is in his first season as assistant coach for thebaseball team in 2009-2010. He will work primarily with theCrusaders pitchers as well as coordinating all recruiting effortsfor the team. Ribas spent the prior two seasons at NorthwesternUniversity in Evanston, Ill. where he dedicated his time tocoaching outfielders, as well as handling the majority of theWildcat recruiting efforts. 

Ribas' also brings a wealth of professional and collegiateexperience to Mount St. James. Born in California, and raised inBrunswick, Maine, Ribas was named USA Today's Maine State Player ofthe Year in 1998.  He moved on to Northwestern University,where he pitched for the Wildcats from 1999-2002.  A stand-outathlete, Ribas was a second team All-Big Ten selection in 2000 andwas named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team in 2002. 

In 2002, Ribas was selected in the 14th round of the MajorLeague Baseball Amateur Player Draft by the San Diego Padres. In his first professional season in Class A ball, Ribas was namedthe Rolaids Relief Man of the year for the Eugene Emeralds,compiling an 8-1 record with 16 saves as their closer.  He wasrecognized as a Northwest League All-Star and was later named tothe Em's 50th Anniversary team.  In 2003, Ribas was namedthe San Diego Padres Minor League Pitcher of the year. Leading all of the minor leagues in wins with a record of 17-8between Low Class A (Ft. Wayne) and High A (Lake Elsinore), Ribasalso led the Padres organization in strikeouts. His success in 2003helped Ribas to earn a spot on the Fort Wayne Wizards All-TimeTeam.  After his time in the Padres organization, Ribas playedin the Can-Am League with the Quebec Capatiles and was named theleague's right handed pitcher of the year for the 2006 season.

Ribas first started coaching in 2006 at Bowdoin College as thePolar Bears pitching coach.  In 2007, he was a full-time staffmember at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL where he oversaw the work ofpitchers.  Ribas earned a dual-degree in Communications andEnglish from Northwestern in 2002 and currently resides inWorcester.
