WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team defeated Colgate, 11-10, in Patriot League action at Kuzniewski Field Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 4-3 (1-1 PL), while Colgate moves to 1-5 (0-2 PL).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Colgate got on the board six seconds into the opening quarter, but a three goal run over three minutes fueled by sophomore Owen Tunney, senior Will Messineo, and sophomore Andrew Ottomanelli gave Holy Cross the 3-1 lead. 
• Colgate cut the lead to 3-2 before the end of the quarter, but goals by junior Will Deo and sophomore Jude Lynch gave the Crusaders a three goal lead.
• The Raiders scored five in the second quarter - broken up by a goal by junior Sam McDonald - to take the 7-6 lead into the halftime break.
• Junior Ryan Botek tied the game at 7-7 to open the second half, but was quickly snapped as Colgate scored to take the 8-7 lead exactly one minute later, and the 9-7 lead with 1:36 to play in the third quarter. 
• Deo sparked the offense with his second of the game with two seconds to go in the third quarter, leading to a three goal run in just over three minutes in the fourth quarter by Tunney, junior Bo Webster, and Botek to go up 11-9 with just over six minutes to play.
• Colgate cut the lead to 11-10 with 3:49 remaining, but a faceoff win by freshman Shane McDonnell and forced turnovers by sophomore Jake Doran and senior Michael Rincon kept the ball with the Crusaders.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Senior JR Long recorded nine saves in his fourth win of the season in net.
• Sophomore Harry Attell led both sides with nine faceoff wins, finishing the afternoon with a .643 win percentage.
• Rincon led both sides with six ground ball pickups, while senior Julian Jenkins tied for the game-lead with three caused turnovers.
• Prior to the matchup, Holy Cross recognized the 11 members of its senior class as part of its Senior Day ceremonies: Damien Ramondo, Jack Dowling, Julian Jenkins, Brendan Lane, Will Messineo, Tyler Marmo, Michael Rincon, Billy Black, Sean Miller, Max Hubler, and JR Long.
