Baseball’s Wywoda goes seven strong in win at Seattle

SEATTLE – Senior right-handed pitcher Jaden Wywoda tossed seven strong innings as the Holy Cross baseball team rolled through Seattle 11-1 Friday evening in the opening game of a four game series at Bannerwood Park.

The team captain had his best outing of 2026 tossing 93 pitches – 61 strikes across seven quality frames scattering a pair of hits and one run, while striking out a season-best five batters. He moved to 1-0 on the campaign with a 2.08 ERA, a 0.69 WHIP and a .138 batting average against through three starts.

The offense for the Crusaders was on fire for third straight game averaging 13.6 runs and 15.0 hits per game over their last three contests. Sophomore third baseman Simon Landry has led the way for Holy Cross in that stretch hitting .500 (5-for-10) with two doubles, a home run, four RBI, six runs scored, a walk and three stolen bases in that stretch.

STARTING ON THE MOUND:
  • Senior Jaden Wywoda: (W, 1-0), 7.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, one run, zero walks, five strikeouts.
  • Travis Farrell: (L, 0-2), 4.1 innings pitched, six hits allowed, two earned runs, zero walks, 10 strikeouts.  
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
  • Freshman Henry Harding: 2.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, zero runs, one walk, one strikeout
  • Camden Oram: 1.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, five runs – two earned, one walk, two strikeouts
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Landry: 2-for-3, double, two RBI, three runs scored, walk, two stolen bases
  • Sophomore Nick Andersen: 2-for-3, three RBI, walk
  • Freshman Owen Stelzer: 2-for-3, two doubles, RBI, two runs scored
  • Freshman Liam Daly: 2-for-5, RBI, run scored, stolen base
  • Junior Van Coughlin: 1-for-2, two runs scored, two walks
  • Payton Knowles: 1-for-3, double, RBI, walk
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holy Cross scored first in the top of the second with two outs following a Landry opposite field double down the right field line. Coughlin came home off a wild pitch for the 1-0 Crusader lead.
  • Andersen who entered the game in the bottom of the fourth pulled an RBI single through the right side, his first collegiate hit, in the away half of the fifth for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Crusaders strung together five runs in the top of the sixth as Daily started off the frame with an RBI single two runs on an error and two on sacrifices put them ahead 7-0.
  • Wywoda allowed a single run in the sixth inning.
  • RBIs from Landry and Andersen in the eighth added insurance.

  • Holy Cross continues its weekend set at Seattle on Saturday, Feb. 28.
  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Pedro Leon (0-1, 6.75 ERA) will take the mound for Holy Cross in game two. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. est.
