Aiden Disu posted career-high point totals each as the Holy Cross men's basketball team lost to Loyola (Md.) 83-73 Sunday afternoon in Reitz Arena.
Warren scored 28 points on 56.3 percent (9-of-16) shooting going 4-for-7 (57.1 percent) from three-point land with a personal-high nine rebounds and an assist for the Crusaders (9-18, 4-10 PL). Disu added 22 points with six boards and a block shooting 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from the floor. Sophomore guard
Tyler Boston joined his teammates in double-figures with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.
For Loyola (Md.) (11-16, 7-7 PL), Braeden Speed filled the stat sheet with 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while Emmett Adair dropped 24 points on 6-for-10 (60.0%) shooting from distance.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Disu gave the Crusaders their first lead knocking down a three from the right wing for the 3-2 lead 1:21 into the contest. Down 6-3, an 11-0 Crusader stretch with Disu posting four points during the binge pushed them ahead 14-6 following a junior guard John St. Germain III layup with 12:54 to play in the half. Junior forward Declan Ryan opened up a 10 point, 18-8 edge driving the lane and converting a floater.
- Loyola stormed back with 11 straight of their own to regain the lead 19-18 following a catch and shoot triple. Disu's 11th point of the first half put Holy Cross ahead by three, 25-22 with 3:47 to go. Loyola led 30-27 at the break.
- Disu corralled a miss and fought through contact for the hoop and harm to level the score at 32 all with 17:51 left. Back-to-back triples from Warren and Disu regained the lead to Holy Cross at 38-35. That was the start of a 19-8 Crusader stretch as Warren notched 13 points during the binge for the 51-43 Holy Cross lead with 11:54 left. Loyola regained the edge, 60-55 with a 17-4 run of their own with 8:13 to play.
- Three straight pull-up jumpers from Boston put Holy Cross down three, 70-67 with 4:15 to go. The Greyhounds countered on the next possession with a three-pointer to regain the multiple score edge.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Disu is 30-for-33 (90.9 percent) from the line over his last 10 games.
- Disu has scored 20+ points in three straight games.
- Loyola shot 66.7 percent (10-for-15) from deep in the second half.
- 23 of Warren's 28 points came in the second half.
- The Greyhounds bench outscored the Crusaders' 25-to-4.
