Crusaders use balanced attack to take down Colgate

Donnelly's double-double leads four Crusaders in double figures.

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Holy Cross had six players score nine or more points en route to a 75-64 road win over Colgate at Cotterell Court on Wednesday night. The win propelled the Crusaders to 15-9 overall and 9-4 in Patriot League play, while sweeping the Raiders in the season series as they fell to 6-18 and 2-11.

Point guard Kaitlyn Flanagan led the charge with 15 points and forward Meg Cahalan was second on the team at 14. Simone Foreman posted 12 points and five rebounds, while Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly notched her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Off the bench, Janie Bachmann and Hannah Griffin each contributed nine points.

Colgate's Madison Schiller led all players with 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Cahalan opened the scoring over two and a half minutes into the contest with a bucket in the paint. Colgate soon tied the game, but a pair of free throws by Foreman with 6:08 left in the first put the Crusaders back on top and they never looked back.
  • Early in the second, Donnelly hit her first of two three-pointers to give Holy Cross its first double-digit lead at 22-10.
  • The Crusaders largest lead of the night came at 16 with 3:07 left in the second quarter on Donnelly's second three-pointer.
  • Holy Cross led 31-20 at the half and 50-38 by the end of the third quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Colgate shot 55.0% (11-for-20) from the field and continually sent the Crusaders to the free throw line to extend the game, but Holy Cross responded by going 15-for-18 from the charity stripe. Cahalan was a perfect 6-for-6 in the quarter and Flanagan was 5-for-6.
