Men's ice hockey splits weekend set with Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to Bentley, 4-3, Saturday night at Bentley Arena.

Bentley improves to 4-4-0 (3-1-0 AHA), while Holy Cross moves to 4-6-0 (2-4-0 AHA).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holy Cross got on the board first thanks to junior Jack Larrigan's first goal as a Crusader 4:14 into the opening period. The transfer from St. Louis, Mo. got in front of the defense and picked up a pass from senior David Hymovitch, sending a wrist shot past the Falcons' goalie for the 1-0 lead.
  • Bentley came back swinging, netting three goals in 2:32 to close out the period with a 3-1 lead.
  • It was all Holy Cross in the second period as freshman Christian Maro and senior Ty Gagno each netted goals to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Maro picked up his first collegiate goal with just over five minutes to go in the middle frame, skating the puck from blue line to blue line before sending a wrist shot from the faceoff dot that went over the shoulder of the goaltender.
  • Gagno followed up just over three minutes later, tapping in a pass across the crease by freshman Cooper Conway to tie the game.
  • Bentley took the lead with just under 13 minutes to play in regulation, netting a goal just seconds after a successful penalty kill by the Crusaders.

INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Sophomore Danick Leroux recorded 30 saves in the contest.
  • Junior Noah Eyre led both sides with 11 faceoff wins, finishing the night with a .647 (11-for-17) success rate at the dot.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will take a break from conference play next weekend to face two Hockey East teams in Merrimack and Northeastern.
  • The Crusaders will travel to North Andover, Mass. on Friday, Nov. 6 to face no. 16 Merrimack at Lawler Arena at 7 p.m.
  • Holy Cross will then return home to the Hart Center Rink on Saturday, Nov. 7 to face Northeastern at 7 p.m. for Country Music Night, presented by Pepsi.
