Field hockey falls in final non-conference matchup to UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to UAlbany, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Turf.

Both teams move to 8-5 on the season with the result.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Neither team was able to score in a tightly contested first half, with each team recording two shots and Holy Cross earning the only two penalty corner opportunities.
  • Freshman Marianna MacLean opened the scoring 2:31 into the second half, receiving a throw from senior Saskia Williams and finding herself behind the defense. Pulling around the goalie, MacLean sent a reverse chip past the UAlbany netminder.
  • The Great Danes came back firing, scoring two goals of their own in a 3:38 span, before tacking on a third in the final quarter of play.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Junior Mia McCloskey recorded three saves in the contest.
  • MacLean's eight goals are tied for third-most in the Patriot League, while her eight assists rank fourth. Her 24 points trail just one other Patriot League athlete.

UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders return home to the Hart Turf Field on Sunday, Oct. 25 when they face American for Senior Day at 12 p.m.
