WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman
Manuela Heidenberger scored her first career goal, as the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team tied Assumption 2-2 in overtime at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders went on to win the shootout 1-0. Holy Cross now stands 1-0-2 on the season, while the Greyhounds move to 2-0-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
• The Crusaders opened the scoring late in the first period on a goal by sophomore
Violet Carroll, with assists from senior
Lulu Rourke and junior
Kaitlin Sullivan.Â
• Assumption responded second period goal by Haven Mills and Alexa Hanrahan to claim a 2-1 lead.
• With less than two minutes left in the third period, Heidenberger scored with assists from Rourke and sophomore
Ella Malloy, tying up the game and forcing overtime.
• Following a scoreless extra session, the teams went into a shootout.
• Heidenberger scored the only goal of the shootout in the first round, while freshman
Jorinde Heller saved all three shots she faced.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The Greyhounds finished the night with a 28-25 advantage in shots on goal.
• Heller totaled 26 saves on the evening.
• Rourke's two assists tied her career high.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, Oct. 9, when it plays host to Boston College at 7 p.m.
