WEST POINT, N.Y. – Freshman forward
Aiden Disu had a 14 point and 10 rebound double-double as the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated 69-68 by Patriot League foe Army West Point Saturday afternoon in Christl Arena.
Holy Cross (8-15, 3-7 PL) had a chance to win the game with seconds to play, but their look was off the mark. Disu was one of five Crusaders in double-figures, he recorded a career-high three blocks and was a perfect 6-for-6 (100.0 percent) at the line. Junior guard
DeAndre Williams (11 points), junior guard/forward
Gabe Warren (11 points), junior guard/forward
Joe Nugent (11 points) and junior guard
John St. Germain III (10 points) were the other players in double-digits.
For Army (10-13, 4-6 PL), Ryan Curry scored a game-high 27 points going 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) from three-point range. Curry hit the game winning jumper with 14 seconds left in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Disu cleaned up a missed jumper for the first points of the game for either side. Curry scored all nine Army's opening points for the 9-8 edge. Following missed free throws, Nugent drained a corner three-ball to push Holy Cross back ahead 11-9 with 15:38 left. A 9-3 Army outburst put them back in the lead at 18-14 with 11:44 to go.
- Six straight from Crusaders capped off by a Nugent three-pointer regained the lead at 20-18 halfway through the stanza. Back-to-back Army three balls grew their margin to four, 24-20, both squads never could expand the edge to multiple possessions as the score was level at 33-33 at the break.
- A Warren tip-in and a pair of junior forward Declan Ryan free throws increased the lead to four, 37-33 1:32 into the new half. Three straight Army three-pointers turned the four point Crusader lead into a five point Army lead at 42-37 with 16:49 left in the half. A Williams three and another Disu bucket brought Holy Cross within three, 45-42. Trailing by eight, Holy Cross tied things up starting with a St. Germain III trifecta getting another three from Williams and a Ryan baseline drive making it 52 all with 10:29 left.
- A 9-0 Crusader binge tied the contest at 61 all, both teams endured scoreless stretches until sophomore guard Tyler Boston drove and drained a turnaround jumper from the paint with 4:01 left. Army tied the game until sophomore forward Aidan Richard came up with a massive offensive board and found Warren on the wing for a three with 3:05 left. On the next trip down the court, Army countered with a four point play for a 67-66 edge. Boston hit two of two at the stripe with 26 seconds to play until Curry's jumper eventually won them the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The double-double was the second in Disu's career. Both have come against Army.
- Army became the second team to hit 15 or more three-pointers against the Crusaders this season (16, at Sacred Heart – Nov. 21, 2025).
- Holy Cross scored 17 points off 15 Army turnovers, but Army held the edge in second chance points (25-to-11).
