WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team dropped a 72-58 decision to the Navy Midshipmen in Patriot League action on Wednesday evening at the Hart Center Arena in Worcester.
With the setback, Holy Cross falls to 10-8 (4-3 PL) and Navy improves to 11-6 (6-1 PL).
Junior
Hannah Griffin scored a career-high 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting to lead the Crusaders, while classmate
Kendall Eddy added 11 points, three steals and three assists. Four different
players scored eight or more points on the night as part of a balanced scoring attack.
Zanai Barnett-Gay and Zoe Mesuch paced Navy with 19 points apiece and Barnett-Gay added 13 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Midshipmen got off to a strong start and led 15-8 just over four minutes into the game. Over the remainder of the quarter, the lead stretched to nine before consecutive layups from Griffin sparked a 9-2 run that trimmed the deficit to two at 23-21.
- Holy Cross scored six straight early in the second quarter capped off by a pair of jumpers from senior Meg Cahalan to take a 27-25 lead at the 6:13 mark of the period. Both teams exchanged baskets over much of the remainder of the quarter and a late layup from Barnett-Gay in the waning seconds gave Navy a 35-33 edge at the break.
- Barnett-Gay opened the scoring in the third quarter which began a 17-2 Midshipmen run for a 52-35 lead with 5:20 remaining. However, the Crusaders fought back and used a 13-2 run of their own including a pair of threes from freshman Asia Wilson that cut the deficit to six at 54-48 late in the quarter.
- Navy then sank a three on either side of the quarter break that stretched the lead back to double digits in the early stages of the fourth and recorded the 72-58 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Griffin's 12 points surpassed her previous career-high of eight that had been set in a victory over UMass Lowell on Dec. 21, 2025.
- The junior guard also added three rebounds, two assists and a steal on the night.
- Cahalan and fellow senior Kaitlyn Flanagan added eight points apiece for the Crusaders.
- Holy Cross shot 25-of-62 (40.3%) from the floor, while the Midshipmen were 29-of-62 (46.8%).
- Navy held a 41-31 edge on the glass and senior Simone Foreman led the Crusaders with nine boards as she surpassed the 700 mark for her career.
