DURHAM, N.H. – The Holy Cross volleyball team started their 2025 campaign with a 3-0 loss to host New Hampshire at the Holly Young Invitational on Friday evening in Lindholm Gymnasium.

The loss moves the Crusaders to 0-1 on the year while the host Wildcats (1-0) pick up their first win of the season.

For the Crusaders, freshman middle blocker Kyla Harris hit .556 with six kills to go with two total blocks. Junior outside hitter Taliah Lee posted a team-high seven kills while freshman outside hitter Ava White tallied a squad-best four blocks.

SET SCORES:
Wildcats 3, Crusaders 0 (14-25, 20-25, 13-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Freshman outside hitter Emma Sorensen leveled the score 3-3 placing an ace in the back right corner. From there The Wildcats outscored the Crusaders 7-1 to lead 10-4. Holy Cross closed the gap to four via an attack error making it 12-8. Ahead by five, the Wildcats outproduced the Crusaders 8-2 to clinch the opening set.
• Trailing by four 9-5 in the in the second set, Holy Cross tied up the game 13-13 on the strength of an 8-4 scoring outburst getting a pair of kills from Harris. The Wildcats eventually took the lead and Holy Cross trimmed the deficit to two, 19-17 when Lee converted a kill from the left pin. The hosts posted the next three markers to lead by five before taking the set, 25-20.
• The Wildcats started the third set on a 14-2 scoring stretch to lead by 12. The Crusaders continued to fight earning a 5-1 mini-run after White put home an attack attempt to make the score 19-10. UNH clinched the sweep late in the set.

INSIDE THE BOX:

• Holy Cross started only one returning player (senior setter Katie Russell).
• 11 Crusaders made their collegiate debuts in the match.

UP NEXT:

• The Crusaders are back on the court Saturday, August 30 for a pair of contests with Northeastern (1-0) at 10 a.m. and St. Peter's (0-1) at 4 p.m.
