PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman defender
Cayden Walton scored the first goal of his collegiate career, but he Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Brown 2-1 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Crusaders fall to 0-2-1 on the season, while the Bears begin the year at 1-0-0 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Brown opened the scoring in the fourth minute, when Mads Stistrup Petersen headed the ball in following a throw in by Greyson Mitchell.
• Holy Cross responded in the 12th minute, when Walton scored from six yards out in the center, with assists from junior midfielder
Kevin Cull and freshman forward
Archie Hatcher.
• The score would remain tied until the 87th minute, when Jamin Gogo Peters netted what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Bears.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The Crusaders finished the game with a 16-9 advantage in shots, including a 12-2 edge in the second half.
• Holy Cross also attempted nine corner kicks on the night, to five for Brown.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when it plays host to UMass Lowell in its home opener at 6 p.m.
