WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder
Thomas Mancuso scored his first goal of the season, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by UMass Lowell 2-1 at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders fall to 0-3-1 on the season, while the River Hawks improve to 3-1-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UMass Lowell opened the scoring in the seventh minute, when Inaki Esnaola volleyed in a cross from Justin Pham.
• Holy Cross responded in the 60th minute, when Mancuso knocked in a pass from junior midfielder
Kevin Cull from eight yards out.
• The score would remain tied until the 80th minute, when Henry Wohlt headed in a Cristiano Da Silva corner kick to give the River Hawks the lead for good.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• UMass Lowell finished the game with a 17-16 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
• Mancuso now has six career points on two goals and two assists in 17 games played.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when it plays host to Anna Maria at 6 p.m.
