Baseball concludes regular season against Lehigh Sunday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team completed the 2025 regular season Sunday on Fitton Field finishing a suspended game, a 10-4 setback to Patriot League opponent Lehigh before taking the three game weekend set with a 17-5 run-rule eight inning victory.

The split sends the Crusaders to 27-22, 17-8 PL while the Mountain Hawks, who clinched the No. 4 seed in the upcoming 2025 Patriot League Tournament go to 23-24, 11-14 PL. The 17 conference victories established a new program record for Holy Cross and the victory was their 14th over their last 19 contests.

Senior third baseman Connor Peek extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 2-for-3 showing in game three of the series. Peek is hitting .459 (17-of-37) with two home runs, nine RBI, four doubles, a triple, 16 runs scored and five walks during the hot stretch raising his batting average from .237 to .323.

Sophomore left fielder John LaFleur had a massive series for Holy Cross hitting .286 (4-for-14) with three home runs and 12 RBI. Senior first baseman Chris Baillargeon hit .833 (5-for-6) with three doubles, two RBI and five runs scored getting on-base at a .917 clip.

Holy Cross has outscored their opponents 76-to-25 over this last five games and are averaging 15 runs per game. Against Lehigh (4-1) this year, Holy Cross has outscored the Mountain Hawks 70-to-27.

GAME TWO: LEHIGH 10, HOLY CROSS 4

STARTING ON THE MOUND:
  • Marcus Danchision: (W, 5-3), 5.0 innings pitched, seven hits allowed, three earned runs, two walks, four strikeouts.
  • Sophomore Thomas Skrobe: (L, 1-1), 4.1 innings pitched, six hits allowed, five runs – four earned, one walk, four strikeouts.
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
  • Cole Kochanowicz: (S, 3): 4.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, one earned run, zero walks, one strikeout.
  • Sophomore Andrew Nesson: 1.2 innings pitched, zero hits allowed, zero earned runs, two walks, one strikeout
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Justin Butler: 4-for-4, double, home run, seven RBI, run scored, walk.
  • Aidan Quinn: 2-for-5, home run, RBI, three runs scored.
  • Connor Peek: 3-for-4, home run, triple, RBI, three runs scored.
  • Senior Connor Cooney: 2-for-4, double, RBI.
  • John LaFleur:  1-for-3, home run, RBI, run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lehigh took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second via an RBI single to left field.
  • Holy Cross gained that run back in the home half of the second flaring a single to center making it 1-1.
  • A Mountain Hawk grand slam in the top of the fourth put them out in front 5-1.
  • Holy Cross added a run thanks to an RBI groundout trailing 5-2 in the fourth.
  • LaFleur demolished a 0-2 pitch off the scoreboard in right center for a solo homer to make it 5-3.
  • Lehigh gained that run back in the top of the seventh with a solo homer to up the margin to 6-3. A two RBI double increased the score to 8-3.
  • Trailing 10-3, Peek bashed a solo homer to left field pulling his team within six, 10-4 in the ninth.

GAME THREE: HOLY CROSS 17, LEHIGH 5 (8 INN.)

STARTING ON THE MOUND:
  • Junior Jaden Wywoda: (W, 9-1), 3.0 innings pitched, five hits allowed, three earned runs, one walk, three strikeouts.
  • Liam O'Hearen: (L, 4-6), 0.2 innings pitched, one hit allowed, six earned runs, four walks, zero strikeouts.
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
  • Freshman Derek Volz: 1.1 innings pitched, zero hits allowed, zero earned runs, zero walks, one strikeout.
  • Max Treonze: 2.1 innings pitched, six hits allowed, five earned runs, two walks, two strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Senior Sean Scanlon: 2-for-2, double, five RBI, four runs scored, two walks.
  • Chris Baillargeon: 2-for-2, two doubles, RBI, run scored, two walks.
  • Connor Peek: 3-for-3, double, two runs scored, walk.
  • Senior Brendan Jones: 1-for-4, two RBI, run scored, walk.
  • Senior Jimmy King: 1-for-3, two RBI.
  • Junior CJ Egrie: 2-for-3, triple, RBI, three runs scored, walk.
  • Dom Patrizi: 2-for-4, double, RBI, two runs scored, walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holy Cross scored nine runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. Scanlon unloaded the bases with an opposite field double building the edge to 8-0. Baillargeon brought home his teammate with an opposite field two-bagger for the 9-0 lead.
  • In the second, Jones singled to center to plate Peek increasing the margin to 10-0.
  • Lehigh tallied three runs in the top of the third trailing 10-3.
  • Two more runs from the Mountain Hawks in the fourth brought them within six, 11-5.
  • Egrie led off the fifth tripling into right center. A Scanlon sacrifice fly scored Egrie. A King single to center pushed the lead to 13-5.
  • LaFleur helped the Crusaders complete the run-rule win connecting on his team-leading sixth round tripper of the season, a three-run shot to right center. 
DUE UP:
  • No. 1 Holy Cross will host No. 4 Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals for game one of a best of three series on Saturday, May 10.
  • First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
