WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Owen Egan, a member of the Holy Cross men's golf team, has been selected as the 2024-2025 winner of the Daniel Allen Sportsmanship Award. Presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Allen Award goes to the player whose unselfish teamwork and dedication to the good of the team reflect the values lived by Coach Allen. The winning student-athlete need not be a star or even a starter, but a solid performer with an outstanding attitude whose contributions are not frequently recognized. The award is designed to recognize a student-athlete who is dedicated to the good of the team, possesses integrity, and is a great teammate.
A three-time captain from his sophomore to senior year, Egan embodies sportsmanship and leadership both on and off the course. Over his final 26-round season with the Crusaders, he produced a 74.38 strokes per round average and shot a career-low round of 67 on the final day of the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate on March 25. Throughout his time on The Hill, he shot 92 rounds of golf, the second most in the Crusader record book, with 6,846 strokes for a 74.41 career average, the best in Holy Cross program history.
Away from the course, the Massachusetts native volunteers his time providing golf instruction to 20+ veterans and their families with the Salute Military Golf Association and has encouraged his teammates to join in volunteer opportunities. Egan is an All-Patriot League Second Team selection, a CSC Academic All-District honoree, a two-time GCAA All-American Scholar and has been recognized three times on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
