Crusaders fall to Boston University in series finale

Team Impact teammate Chloe threw out the ceremonial first pitch

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team hosted Boston University (BU) for the regular season finale and Turnpike Trophy game on Apr. 6. Team Impact teammate Chloe threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Crusaders fell 6-1 to the Terriers.

CRUSADERS 1, TERRIERS 6 (FINAL)

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:

  • Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone (L, 3-12), 6.2 innings pitched, 12 hits allowed, five runs, five earned, two strikeouts.
  • BU: Kasey Ricard (W, 17-7), 7.0 innings pitched, five hits allowed, one run, one earned, four strikeouts.

IN RELIEF:

  • Holy Cross: Avery Toddings, 0.1 innings pitched, two hits allowed, one run, one earned.

STEPPING TO THE PLATE:

  • Callie Thibault: 1-for-3, one RBI.
  • Emma Fong: 1-for-2, one run scored.
  • Megan Coyne: 1-for-4, one home run, one run scored, two RBIs.
  • Olivia DeLong: 3-for-4, one double, three RBIs.
  • Libby Walsh: 3-for-4, two runs scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • With one on, BU's Megan Coyle hit a two-run homer to left field for the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Terriers extended their lead on an Olivia DeLong RBI double to right center for the 3-0 result. The Crusaders battled back in the bottom of the inning with senior captain Callie Thibault hitting an RBI single to left field scoring fellow senior captain Emma Fong from second.
  • BU tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh on a DeLong two-RBI single to right center and on a wild pitch. The Terriers took the 6-1 win over Holy Cross.

UP NEXT: 

  • The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 8 for a non-conference doubleheader against UMass-Lowell at Freshman Field in Worcester, Mass.
  • First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
