HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Holy Cross softball team traveled to Colgate for a Patriot League doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 26. The Crusaders dropped both games to the Raiders, 8-1 in game one and 6-1 in game two.
GAME ONE: CRUSADERS 1, RAIDERS 8 (FINAL)
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone (L, 4-16), 5.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, five runs, four earned, three strikeouts.
- Colgate: Maya Servedio (W, 8-16), 7.0 innings pitched, five hits allowed, one run, none earned, five strikeouts.
IN RELIEF:
- Holy Cross: Avery Toddings, 1.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, three runs, two earned.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Kate Trudgen: 2-for-2, one triple, one RBI.
- Callie Thibault: 1-for-3, one run scored.
- Lily Haluska: 2-for-2, one home run, three runs scored, two RBIs.
- Alexis Romero: 1-for-2, one home run, one run scored, two RBIs.
- Quinn Livesay: 1-for-3, one home run, one run scored, one RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the second, Alexis Romero hit a solo home run to left field to give Colgate the 1-0 lead.
- The Raiders extended their lead in the bottom of the third on a Quinn Livesay lead off homer to center field and a Romero fielder's choice RBI for the 3-0 result.
- Colgate tacks on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Mia Cascio RBI double, which scored a teammate as well as herself on a throwing error while she rounded third on the play.
- The Crusaders got on the board in the top of the sixth with senior captain Callie Thibault crossing home on a fielding error by the shortstop for the 5-1 score. Claire Whalen stole home and Lily Haluska hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning for a 8-1 advantage in favor of Colgate.
- The Raiders took game one 8-1 over Holy Cross.
GAME TWO: CRUSADERS 1, RAIDERS 6 (FINAL)
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Holy Cross: Jordan Goedel (L, 2-15), 6.0 innings pitched, 12 hits allowed, six runs, four earned, five strikeouts.
- Colgate: Mikala Ham (W, 5-3), 7.0 innings pitched, three hits allowed, one run, one earned, five strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Ali Sniegocki: 1-for-3, one home run, one run scored, one RBI.
- Kate Trudgen: 1-for-3.
- Analisa Raffaelli: 4-for-4, one run scored, two RBIs.
- Jillian Herbst: 1-for-4, one double, one run scored.
- Amanda DeSantis: 2-for-2, two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the first pitch of the game, junior captain Ali Sniegocki crushed a lead-off solo home run for the Holy Cross 1-0 lead.
- Colgate answered back in the bottom of the third, tying the game 1-1 on an Analisa Raffaelli RBI single to right field.
- The Raiders took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, picking up two runs on an Amanda DeSantis RBI walk and a Whalen RBI single to the shortstop.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Colgate tacked on another three runs for the 6-1 lead on a Raffaelli RBI single to center field, Sydney Berg crossed home plate on a throwing error and a DeSantis RBI single to second base.
- The Raiders swept the day with a game two win 6-1 over the Crusaders.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, Apr. 27 for the final game of the series with Colgate at the Eaton Street Softball Complex in Hamilton, N.Y.
- First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
