The Holy Cross football team has announced its five captains for the 2025 season: senior defensive lineman
Christian Ross, senior offensive lineman
Cam Nolan, junior running back
Jayden Clerveaux, senior offensive lineman
Joe Metzger and junior cornerback
Cam Jones.
The five Crusader captains were recognized on-field prior to Holy Cross' Spring Showcase on Saturday, April 12.
"I'm really excited for Christian, Cam, Jayden, Joe, and Cam to lead our team next year," said Holy Cross football head coach
Dan Curran. "Those five leaders embody what it means to be
'Sader Tough and do a tremendous job representing our program on and off the field."
Ross has started every game at defensive end the last two seasons, playing in a total of 23 career contests. He has totaled 63 tackles in that span, with seven tackles for a loss of 29 yards and three sacks. Last year, he finished the season with five TFLs and a pass breakup. He was a leader on a strong defense that held four of Holy Cross' six Patriot League opponents to one touchdown or less this year (just 16.5 points per game, the best mark in the conference), and the Crusaders' rush defense led the league (117.3 yards allowed per game).
Nolan earned All-Patriot League second team honors in 2024 after a breakthrough junior season. He moved into a starting role in Week 4 for the Crusaders, making nine starts at right guard and appearing in all 12 games. He was part of the solid Crusader offensive line that conceded just nine sacks in FCS action and that helped Holy Cross average 27.6 points per game.
Clerveaux was an All-Patriot League first team selection in 2024. He ranked third in the Patriot League with 942 rushing yards, while also scoring 11 touchdowns, ranking second in the conference. In league action, he averaged 106 rushing yards per contest. Clerveaux had three 100+ yard games and four multi-touchdown games in 2024, including back-to-back two-touchdown games in wins over Bucknell and Georgetown.
Metzger made eight starts at left guard and left tackle prior to a season-ending injury in 2024. He was part of the stellar offensive line that conceded just 13 sacks this season — their 1.08 sacks allowed per game was the best mark in the Patriot League and 11th-best nationally.
Jones started all 12 games at cornerback for the Crusaders in 2024 to earn All-Patriot League laurels for the first time. He led Holy Cross with nine pass breakups and tied for the team lead with a pair of interceptions. He also tied for third on the team with 56 tackles on the season. Jones had four pass breakups in Holy Cross' win over Fordham.
