WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Holy Cross softball team concluded the regular season finale at Army on Monday, Apr. 14. The Black Knights took the series win with a 4-1 victory over the Crusaders.
CRUSADERS 1, BLACK KNIGHTS 4 (FINAL)
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Holy Cross: Jordan Goedel (L, 2-11), 4.2 innings pitched, five hits allowed, four runs, four earned, four strikeouts.
- Army: Katelyn Flanders (W, 7-3), 7.0 innings pitched, three hits allowed, one runs, one earned, three strikeouts.
IN RELIEF:
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Jena Whipple: 2-for-3, one triple, one RBI.
- Callie Thibault: 1-for-3, one double.
- Breanna Coonfare: 1-for-3, one double, one run scored, two RBIs.
- Annie Christiana: 1-for-3, one run scored, one RBI.
- Maisi Sigler: 2-for-3, one triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After 4.5 scoreless innings, Army got on the board with a Breanna Coonfare two-RBI double to center field followed by an Annie Christiana RBI single to left center. Next, Ashton White hit an RBI single to center field for the 4-0 lead to end the bottom of the fifth.
- Holy Cross attempted to come back in the top of the seventh with senior captain Jena Whipple crushing an RBI triple to right field and driving in teammate Morgan Kane. The Crusaders came up short and the Black Knights took the 4-1 win.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Apr. 19 to host Lehigh in a Patriot League doubleheader at Freshman Field in Worcester, Mass.
- First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
