BALTIMORE, Md. – The Holy Cross softball team faced Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) to conclude the UMBC Tournament on Sunday, Mar. 9. A late comeback attempt by the Crusaders fell short with the Black Knights taking the game 4-3.
CRUSADERS 3, KNIGHTS 4 (FINAL)
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Holy Cross: Jordan Goedel (L, 1-5), 3.2 innings pitched, six hits allowed, three runs, three earned, three strikeouts.
- FDU: Brooklyn Shroyer (W, 4-2), 7.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, three runs, two earned, five strikeouts.
IN RELIEF:
- Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone, 3.1 innings pitched, three hits allowed, one run, none earned, one strikeout.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Jordan Goedel: 1-for-3, one run scored, one RBI.
- Anna Brait: 1-for-2, one run scored.
- Brianna Holguin: 1-for-4, one double, two RBIs.
- Celeste Quezadal: 2-for-4, one RBI.
- Ayden Stone: 1-for-4, one run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Black Knights scored in the top of the third with Brianna Holguin hitting an RBI double to left field.
- FDU furthered their lead with a hit by pitch RBI at the top of the fourth, and Celeste Quezada hit an RBI single through the right side at the top of the fifth.
- In the bottom of the sixth, freshman Jordan Goedel cut the Black Knights' lead in half with a RBI single up the middle to score senior captain Callie Thibault and junior Anna Brait scored on a throwing error by the center fielder. Sophomore Maya Gallagher drove in Goedel on an RBI ground out.
- FDU took the 4-3 win over Holy Cross.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, Mar. 13 when they travel to Yale for a doubleheader at the 5K Corral Field in New Haven, Conn.
- First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
