No. 20 men's ice hockey falls to AIC in game one of Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to AIC, 3-2, in game one of the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinal round.

Holy Cross moves to 20-12-2 with the loss, while AIC improves to 12-21-2 with the win and takes the 1-0 lead in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC got on the board first with 9:15 to play in the first period, before netting two goals in 1:39 in the second period to take the 3-0 lead.
  • Junior Jack Seymour got the Crusaders on the board with 13:28 to play in the third, taking the puck up the middle of the ice before unleashing a wrist shot through traffic that found it's way past the Yellowjackets' netminder.
  • With the goaltender pulled in favor of the extra attacker, junior Matt DeBoer jammed the puck past the AIC goaltender to bring the Crusaders within one with 1:36 to play, though it proved to be the final goal of the game.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Senior Thomas Gale recorded 16 saves in the contest.
  • The Crusaders held the slight edge in faceoff wins, 28-25, led by junior Michael Abgrall's eight wins.
  • Holy Cross outshot AIC, 36-19.
