Baseball drops contest to Harvard

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team dropped a nonconference contest to Harvard 14-13 on Tuesday evening.

The Crusaders (11-13) stole a season-high eight bases and had a year-high two triples in the setback.

STARTING ON THE MOUND:
  • Sophomore Nick Harnisch: ND, 1.2 innings pitched, one hit allowed, two earned runs, three walks, two strikeouts.
  • Owen Tahnk: ND, 1.1 innings pitched, three hits allowed, six earned runs, four walks, two strikeouts.
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
  • Cole Cleary: W, (1-0), 2.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, one walk, four strikeouts.
  • Senior Augie Walters: L, (0-1), 1.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, one run – zero earned, one strikeout.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Senior Jimmy King: 3-for-5, double, triple, two RBI, two runs scored, stolen base.
  • Junior CJ Egrie: 2-for-3, RBI, three runs scored, three stolen bases.
  • Senior Chris Baillargeon: 2-for-3, two doubles, three RBI, run scored, walk.
  • Sophomore Alex Sandell: 2-for-5, two runs scored, stolen base.
  • Sophomore Gianni Royer: 2-for-6, triple, two RBI, two runs scored, two stolen bases.
  • Liam Wilson: 2-for-5, home run, double, six RBI, run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holy Cross scored four runs in the opening inning as Royer singled to plate a pair.
  • Harvard gained a run back in the home half of the first.
  • The Crusaders packed the bases full in the top of the second with one out. They scored two to extend the lead to 6-1.
  • Back-to-back triples in the third from Royer and King expanded the lead. Sophomore John LaFleur brought in another run via a groundout for the 8-2 edge.
  • A four run third for Harvard in which they drilled a three-run homer put them down two, 8-6.
  • The Crusaders produced three runs in the fifth getting a LaFleur RBI double to lead 12-8.
  • Holding a 13-10 lead, the Crusaders gave up three runs in the seventh as the Crimson leveled the game 13-13.
  • A single run in the eighth for the Crimson was the game deciding tally.
DUE UP:
  • Holy Cross opens their home schedule against Patriot League opponent Bucknell (9-13, 1-3 PL) on Saturday, March 29.
  • First pitch of the conference doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
