VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior
Sean Scanlon tallied a trio of extra base hits and four RBI as the Holy Cross baseball team split a nonconference twinbill Saturday afternoon against Binghamton at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
The Crusaders defeated (8-10) the Bearcats (8-9) 10-7 in game one before falling 6-0 in game two.
Scanlon went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. It was his third 3+ hit game of the season and the four RBI matched a career-high set on May 6, 2023 at Lafayette.
Junior
CJ Egrie's reached base streak ended at 17 games to start the season and 26 straight games dating back to May 7, 2023 following the end of game two.
GAME ONE: HOLY CROSS 10, BINGHAMTON 7
STARTING ON THE MOUND:
- Junior Danny Macchiarola: W, (3-2), 5.2 innings pitched, eight hits allowed, six earned runs, two walks, four strikeouts.
- Brady Bouchard L, (1-3): 3.2 innings pitched, seven hits allowed, seven earned runs, one walk, four strikeouts.
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
- Freshman Jake Lenahan: S (2), 3.1 innings pitched, two hits allowed, one earned run, four strikeouts.
- Ben Griffith: 3.0 innings pitched five hits allowed, three earned runs, one walk, two strikeouts.
- Jake Dally: 1.1 innings pitched, two strikeouts.
- Chris Sleeper: 1.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, one strikeout.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Sean Scanlon: 3-for-5, home run, two doubles, four RBI, three run scored.
- Senior Connor Cooney: 2-for-4, two doubles, RBI, run scored.
- Senior Chris Baillargeon: 2-for-5, RBI.
- Sophomore Gianni Royer: 1-for-3, double, two walks, stolen base, run scored.
- Freshman Nick Spaner: 2-for-4, run scored, RBI.
- Senior Brendan Jones: 1-for-3, RBI, run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Binghamton tallied four runs in the first, including an RBI double to lead 4-0 early.
- Scanlon doubled for the first time, plating one in the third.
- Spaner added a single to push the Crusaders ahead 5-4. Scanlon demolished a home run, a three-run shot doubling the lead to 8-4.
- RBI doubles from Royer and Cooney added insurance in the late frames.
GAME TWO: BINGHAMTON 6, HOLY CROSS 0
STARTING ON THE MOUND:
- Colin Rhein: W, (2-3), 7.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, five strikeouts.
- Junior Jaden Wywoda: L, (2-1), 5.1 innings pitched, eight hits allowed, four runs – three earned, six strikeouts.
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
- Brady Lesiak: 1.0 innings pitched, one strikeout.
- Jackson Mitchell: 1.0 innings pitched, one walk, one strikeout.
- Senior Luke LeMond: 2.1 innings pitched, four hits allowed, two runs – one earned, two walks, two strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Mike Strellrecht: 2-for-4, stolen base.
- Evin Sullivan: 2-for-4, double, two RBI.
- Brendan Jones: 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- An RBI single in the first put Binghamton ahead 1-0 early.
- Another RBI single and groundout increased the margin to 3-0 in the second.
- Three more runs in the late innings upped the score to 6-0.
DUE UP:
- The Crusaders will be back in action on Wednesday, March 19 at Massachusetts-Lowell (4-11).
- First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
