ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team shutout RIT, 3-0, Saturday night at the Gene Polisseni Center.
 
Holy Cross improves to 17-11-2 (16-4-2 AHA) on the season with the win, while RIT falls to 7-22-1 (6-15-1 AHA) with the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Sophomore Will Troutwine got the Crusaders on the board halfway through the first period, shoveling a backhand shot past the Tigers netminder through traffic.
• Senior Michael Hodge extended the lead to 2-0 with five minutes to go in the middle period, pulling the puck around the outstretched goalie for the easy backhanded score.
• Sophomore Ty Gagno sealed the win with an empty net strike from the defensive blue line with 1:02 to play in regulation.

 
BEYOND THE BOX:

• Senior Thomas Gale recorded 26 saves in the contest, picking up his second shutout of the season.
• Troutwine's goal was the first of his career.
• Holy Cross held the slight edge in at the faceoff dot, taking 27 draws to the Tigers' 25.

 
UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will return home for a four-game homestand to close the regular season.
• Mercyhurst will visit the Hart Center Rink for a two-game set to open the homestand on Thursday, Feb. 13 and Friday, Feb. 14.
