BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team lost 3-2 in overtime to #8-seeded Vermont on Wednesday, Feb. 26 to conclude the 2024-25 season.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
- Holy Cross: Abby Hornung (L, 7-15-3), 40 saves
- Vermont: Sydney Correa (W, 3-5-0), 18 saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Just 48 seconds into the first period, sophomore assistant captain Emily Crovo snuck a pass through the Catamount defense to find junior forward Charlotte Sonntag who put in an early goal. At 14:40, Vermont's Maddy Skelton tied the score with a power-play goal to conclude the period.
- Late in the second period, Vermont took the 2-1 lead with a goal at 18:08 by Rose-Marie Brochu.
- At 13:53 in the third period, Sonntag worked the puck off the boards to Crovo. Crovo made a no-look pass to junior forward Lane Lewis who drove home the equalizer forcing the game into overtime.
- At 13:53 in overtime, Cecilia DesLauriers scored the game-winner on a successful breakaway attempt. The #8-seeded Catamounts took the 3-2 OT win to advance in the Hockey East tournament.
- Vermont led Holy Cross 42-20 in shots on goal and 35-21 in face-offs to conclude the game.
