WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team opened their home schedule on Kuzniewski Field and fell by a 21-8 score to nonconference opponent Massachusetts Tuesday evening.
The setback sends the Crusaders to 3-2 on the year while the Minutewomen improve to 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when sophomore
Annabel Brennan and senior
Isabela Miller each put a goal in the back of the cage just under four minutes into the game. UMass scored a goal but senior
Sally Zinsner countered for a 3-1 HC edge. Senior
Riley Peters tallied a marker keeping the Crusaders up 5-3 after 15 minutes.
• UMass put home nine unanswered goals in the second quarter to push ahead 12-5 with 1:02 left in the half. Holy Cross stopped the run when Senior
Ella Kittredge converted a feed from Miller. The Minutewomen tallied a goal just before half to lead 13-6.
• The Minutewomen outscored the Crusaders 5-1 in the third to take a double-digit lead, a lead they would not relinquish.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Five different players scored in the first quarter for Holy Cross.
• Three players posted five or more points for the Minutewomen.
• Zinser needs one more goal for 100 in her career.
• Miller had three assists in the game and needs five more to become the program's all-time career leader.
• The Crusaders held the advantage in draw controls, 18-to-13.
