WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman guard
Max Green has been named the Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Rookie of the Week, for competition from Feb. 17-23. He averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the Crusaders last week, while hitting 46.7 percent of his three-point attempts. This marks the ninth time this season Green has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, tying the conference record previously shared by Kevin Bettencourt (Bucknell, 2002-2003), Marquis Hall (Lehigh, 2006-2007) and C.J. McCollum (Lehigh, 2009-2010).
During Wednesday's 74-69 overtime victory over Lafayette, Green led the team with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists. He hit two three-pointers in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime, then scored eight points in the extra session, including a three-pointer with 1:04 left to give Holy Cross the lead for good. Green followed that up with 20 points, nine rebounds and two assists in Sunday's 83-77 overtime loss at Navy.
On the season, Green is averaging a team-best 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, while making 36.9 percent of his attempts from three-point range (62 of 168).
Holy Cross (13-16 overall, 5-11 Patriot League) returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26, when it travels to Colgate for a 7 p.m. game.
