GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Holy Cross softball team faced Furman and Northern Iowa to conclude their time in the Furman Tournament. The Crusaders dropped game one 10-0 to Furman and fell 8-0 in game two to Northern Iowa.
The Crusaders are now 1-3 to open the 2025 campaign.
GAME ONE: CRUSADERS 0, PALADINS 10 (FINAL)
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone (L, 1-1), 3.2 innings pitched, seven hits allowed, 10 runs, three earned, one strikeout.
- Furman: Lauralee Scott (W, 2-1), 5 innings pitched, one hit allowed, five strikeouts.
IN RELIEF:
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Kiley Perry: 2-for-2, one double, one RBI.
- Rachel Hawkins: 1-for-3, one home run (grand slam), four RBIs.
- Kate Stolzfus: 1-for-2, one double, two RBIs.
- Madison Petty: 1-for-2, one RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Paladins scored three runs to kick off the bottom of the third on a Kiley Perry double to left center, a Madison Petty sacrifice fly and on a wild pitch. With the bases loaded Rachel Hawkins crushed a grand slam for the 7-0 result.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Furman scored three more runs with Perry hitting an RBI double, Petty with her second sacrifice fly RBI and a wild pitch for the 10-0 score
- The Crusaders were unable to get a run across which evoked the five inning mercy rule to end the game.
GAME TWO: CRUSADERS 0, PANTHERS 8 (FINAL)
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Holy Cross: Jordan Goedel (L, 0-2), 3.0 innings pitched, six hits allowed, seven runs, seven earned, five strikeouts.
- Northern Iowa: Morgan Vertz (W, 2-1), 3 innings pitched.
IN RELIEF:
- Holy Cross: Maya Gallagher, 2.0 innings pitched, two hit allowed, one run, one earned, one strikeout.
- Northern Iowa: Kara Maiers, 2.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, three strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Katy Olive: 3-for-3, one RBI.
- Kate Lappe: 2-for-3, one home run, three RBIs.
- Ella Smithson: 1-for-2, one RBI.
- Addison McElrath: 1-for-2, one double.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the second with Ella Smithson knocking an RBI single into right center and Paige Peterson putting down a sacrifice bunt RBI.
- Northern Iowa drove home four more runs for the 6-0 score on a Kate Lappe two RBI homer to right center, Katy Olive stole home and Katelyn Callahan scored when Ella Smithson was caught trying to take second and was tagged out at first.
- Lappe and Olive both hitan RBI singles in the top of the fourth for the 8-0 result.
- Holy Cross was unable to get on the board in the next inning and half to end the game in five innings with the Panthers taking the 8-0 win.

- The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Mar. 1 for a doubleheader with Saint Peter's at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, N.J.
- First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
