PROVIDENCE – The Holy Cross men's basketball team competed at the final day of the Brown Bears Invitational and fell to the by an 68-49 score Tuesday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Junior guard/forward
Joe Nugent scored a team-best 17 points for the Crusaders (1-4). He snared six rebounds and was 6-for-12 (50 percent) from the field and 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) from distance. Nugent (156) moved into sixth place on the program's all-time three point list passing Robert Champion (153, 2013-17).
Classmate, guard/forward
Gabe Warren scored a season-high matching 13 points on 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) shooting. On the defensive end, he recorded a career-high four steals.
For Brown (1-4) Adrian Uchidiuno scored 16 points in 26 minutes off the bench going 4-for-6 (66.7 percent) from long range.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman forward Aiden Disu drained a triple for the opening points of the game. Brown then scored 10 straight to take a 10-3 lead at the 17:38 mark. Nugent knocked down his 154th career three bringing the Crusaders within two scores at 19-14 with 11:13 left in the half.
- Brown went on a 3:30 scoreless stretch in which the Crusaders made it a four point game, 21-17 following Warren's steal and baseline one handed dunk on a fast break. Brown stopped the scoreless stretch with their own steal to layup which was the start of 14-1 run to take a double-digit 35-18 lead with under two minutes left. Warren ended the Crusaders' 4:16 scoreless stretch splitting a pair of free throws. Holy Cross trailed 37-21 at the half.
- Early in the second half, sophomore guard Aidan Richard knocked down a corner three-pointer which was start of a 11-4 Crusader burst. Junior guard DeAndre Williams slashed through the post for a hoop and harm dropping the deficit to 11, 48-37 with 12:19 left.
- Behind 21, eight straight markers by Holy Cross with Warren and Nugent knocking down three and Warren picking off his fourth pass of the game to a dunk made it 64-49 with 3:47 left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Nugent needs three more three-pointers to move to fifth place on the program's all-time list and 67 more to become the program's all-time leader.
- Holy Cross has gone four straight games without blocking a shot attempt.

- Holy Cross ends their season opening road swing on Friday, Nov. 21 against Sacred Heart (1-3) at 7 p.m.
