Men’s basketball to participate in Brown Bears Invitational

The Holy Cross men's basketball team continues their six game stretch of games away from Worcester when they travel back to Providence, R.I. to compete in the Brown Bears Invitational to face nonconference foe Hampton on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. and Brown on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Both contests will stream live through ESPN+ with Scott Cordischi (play-by-play), Russ Tyler (analyst) and Nick Coit (sideline) on the call for both games.
 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (0-3, 0-0 PL): 
  • Holy Cross returns home following an 87-69 setback to Big 12 foe Utah on Monday evening in Salt Lake City. Junior guard/forward Joe Nugent was one of four Crusaders in double-figures scoring a team-high 19 points going 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) from three-point distance.
  • Nugent has 148 career three-pointers and need six more to move into sixth place on the program's all-time career three-pointer list. He would pass Robert Champion (153, 2013-17). Nugent needs 75 more triples to become the program's all-time leader in three-pointers.
  • The Crusaders have defended the perimeter well in the early stages of the season holding Providence, #8 BYU and Utah to 29.3 percent (22-for-75) efficiency from three-point range which ranks third in the Patriot League behind Loyola (Md.) (20.8 percent, 10-for-48) and Lehigh (27.0 percent, 20-for-74)
  • Holy Cross lost some key contributors to last season's team including the 2025 Patriot League Rookie of the Year as well as four year Crusader Caleb Kenney to graduation. Kenney, the 2024 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, two-time Patriot League All-Defensive Team selection and the 2025 Patriot League Award of Outstanding Leadership and Character award winner is the only player in program history with 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds, 100 career blocks and 100 career steals.
  • Following their trip to Utah, Holy Cross slid from 340th to 341st in the 2026 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings ranking 296th (100.0) in offensive rating and 348th (115.1) in defensive rating. KenPom has Holy Cross facing the 19th toughest nonconference schedule in the nation.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES (2-2, 0-0 CAA): 
  • Hampton earned a 72-63 victory at Brown on Friday evening at the Brown Bears Invitational. Michael Eley scored 18 points going 6-of-8 (75.0 percent) from the field with a pair of steals while Xzavier Long posted 15 rebounds in the win.
  • The Pirates outrebounded the Bears 38-to-27 and forced Brown into 19 turnovers, but the Pirates had 13 of their shots blocked and were 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) from three-point range.
  • Long currently ranks 12th in the NCAA in rebounds per game (12.0), as a team, the Pirates are 34th in bench points per game (39.5).
  • Hampton was picked fifth in the CAA Preseason Poll with Daniel Johnson and Long earning CAA Preseason Honorable Mention selections.
  • The Pirates rank 222nd in the 2026 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings ranking 241st (102.8) in offensive rating and 199th (108.2) in defensive rating.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 3-0 (1.000) in the series history against Hampton with their last meeting coming on Nov. 17, 2007.
  • The Crusaders earned a 60-52 win on the road. Tim Clifford scored a game-high 22 points with six rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
THE BEARS AT A GLANCE (0-4, 0-0 Ivy League): 
  • Brown has opened their season with four straight losses falling to Hampton 72-63 in the opening game of the Brown Bears Invitational. Jeremiah Jenkins scored a game-best 21 points canning 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) three-pointers while N'famara Dabo had a monster double-double with 11 points and 11 blocks.
  • Dabo's 11 blocked shots are the most in the NCAA this season. He ranks fourth in the NCAA in blocks (15) and seventh in blocks per game (3.8). Dabo is also 10th in double-doubles (2).
  • As a team, the Bears pace the IVY League and rank 28th in the NCAA in blocks per game (6.3).
  • Brown was picked sixth out of eight teams in the Ivy League Preseason Poll.
  • The Bears rank 289th in the 2026 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings ranking 287th (100.2) in offensive rating and 254th (109.7) in defensive rating.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 46-18 (.719) in the series against Brown with a 10-3 (.769) record since 2000.
  • In their last meeting on Nov. 16, 2025, Holy Cross earned a 73-65 victory. Then-freshman Tyler Boston scored a team-best 18 points with four rebounds, two steals and two assists.
