Foreman double-doubles in third straight game as women’s basketball falls to Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior guard Simone Foreman posted her third straight double-double as the Holy Cross women's basketball team fell to Patriot League opponent Navy 67-56 Wednesday evening in Alumni Hall.
 
The setback snapped a five game wining streak for the Crusaders (9-5, 2-1 PL). Foreman scored a game-high 22 points with a contest-best 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and seventh of her career. Classmate Meg Cahalan joined Foreman in double figures with 13 markers.
 
For Navy (11-3, 3-0 PL) Kyah Smith scored a team-high 15 points with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Cahalan drained a second chance triple on the left wing pulling the Crusaders within one, 8-7 with 6:18 left in the opening period. Navy used a 11-0 run to build their margin to 19-7 with 1:53 left in the first. They led 25-11 through one stanza.
  • Holy Cross began the second outscoring Navy 7-to-4 with junior Kaitlyn Flanagan draining a triple at the 5:24 mark trimming the deficit to 29-18. Navy closed the half on a 9-4 run to lead 38-22 at the intermission.
  • A 10-2 run for the Crusaders capped off by another Cahalan hoop and harm trimmed the margin to 10, 46-36 with 4:02 left in the third. The Midshipmen held a 55-41 edge through 30 minutes.
  • In the fourth Holy Cross began the quarter on a 10-2 run with Foreman producing six points and Flanagan four to bring Holy Cross within six, 55-51 at the media timeout with 5:05 left. Foreman connected on two at the line with 3:16 left to cut the deficit to four, 57-53. Navy closed out the game outproducing the Crusaders 10 to three.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Navy hit 5-of-9 (55.5%) of their three-pointers in the first quarter but 4-of-13 (30.8%) over the remainder of the game.
  • Foreman is averaging 15.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game on 46.6% (41-of-88) shooting in seven career games in her home state of Maryland.
  • Donnelly has double-digit rebounds in four of the last five games. Eight of her 13 boards came in the fourth quarter.
  • Holy Cross outrebounded Navy 48-to-45 and 13-to-10 on the offensive end. The 48 rebounds matched a season-high.
  • The Crusaders shot a season-low 15.0 percent (3-of-20) from three-point land.
