Men’s basketball takes down Navy

WORCESTER, Mass. — Sophomore forward Joe Nugent totaled 21 points and nine rebounds, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 70-59 victory over Navy at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 10-6 on the year and 2-1 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Midshipmen fall to 5-11 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross connected on 53.7 percent of its field goal attempts and 50.0 percent of its three-pointers on the night, while posting a 35-34 rebounding advantage. 
• The Crusaders also held Navy to 39.7 percent shooting from the floor and 25.0 percent shooting from three-point range.
• Senior forward Caleb Kenney finished the game with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while sophomore guard DeAndre Williams added nine points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists.
• The Midshipmen were led by Aidan Kehoe with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Navy started the game hot, jumping out to a seven-point lead (14-7) after the first six minutes of action. 
• The Midshipmen were still up by seven (19-12) at the 11:34-mark, when Holy Cross scored nine straight points to claim the lead. 
• The Crusaders later closed out the half with a 12-4 spurt, and led 38-30 heading into the locker room.
• Navy responded at the start of the second half, tying up the game at 42-42 with a 12-4 run.
• But Holy Cross scored the next 11 points to pull back in front, and went on to increase its lead to 15 (63-48) with seven minutes left.
• The Crusaders led by at least 11 points the rest of the way, eventually winning 70-59.
