PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to Michigan Tech, 4-3 in overtime, on Saturday afternoon at Acrisure Arena.
With the loss, Holy Cross moves to 8-11-1, while Michigan Tech improves to 11-7-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies opened the scoring just under ten minutes into the opening period.Â
- Sophomore Jack Stockfish tied the game at 1-1 on the power play just under two minutes later. Junior Devin Phillips carried the puck into the zone, finding senior Liam McLinskey across the ice for a pass. McLinskey held the puck until the defenseman and netminder committed to him, allowing Stockfish to take the open lane to the net for the easy tap in goal.
- Junior Timothy Heinke extended the Crusader lead to 2-1 at the 10:37 mark of the second period. Putting pressure on Michigan Tech in their defensive end, freshman Edward Moskowitz forced the Huskies to turn the puck over, with the deflection going to Heinke's stick. Heinke's initial shot was stopped by the Huskies' netminder, but Heinke was able to send the rebound into the back of the net for the score.
- Michigan Tech tied the game at 2-2 with 4:32 left in the second and took the 3-2 lead 37 seconds into the third.
- Stockfish picked up his second goal of the game to knot the game up at three all 2:07 into the final frame. Carrying the puck the length of the ice, Stockfish out ran his defenders to the net for the score.
- The Huskies scored 33 seconds into the overtime period to win the game.
