The Holy Cross women's basketball team will square off against Patriot League opponent Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, Jan. 25 with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.
Saturday is Education Appreciation Day. All
education workers are eligible to claim two complimentary tickets to the game and have the option to purchase additional at a discounted rate. Women's basketball student-athletes will also participate in a postgame autograph signing.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (13-5, 6-1 PL):
- The Crusaders have won four straight contests and moved to 9-1 (.900) over their last 10 games including a 61-59 win on the road at Army on Wednesday. Four players reached double-figures for Holy Cross including senior Lindsay Berger who scored a game-high 17 points with seven boards.
- Berger was named the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday for the first time in her career. She paced the Patriot League in scoring (19.0), field goal percentage (73.7%), blocked shots (4), blocks per game (2.0), and free throws made (10) last week.
- Berger has been dialed in the last four games for the Crusaders averaging a team-high 17.8 points, a squad-best 7.3 rebounds with 1.5 blocks per game on 67.4 percent (29-of-43) shooting and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) efficiency at the line.
- For the week Jan. 13 to Jan. 19, Holy Cross ranked second in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense (24.0), tied for third in scoring defense (40.5), and 11th in scoring margin (+29).
- The Crusaders' defensive unit has been locked in over their last 10 contests (9-1, .900) allowing opponents to average 51.8 points per game on 33.3 percent (185-of-555) shooting and 26.6 percent (49-of-184) from three-point land. They have a +13.1 scoring margin and a +8.0 rebounding margin.
- The Crusaders have only had their shot blocked 30 times this season which ranks fouth fewest in the NCAA.
- Over the last three seasons, Holy Cross is 43-12 (.782) at home in the Hart Center Arena compared to 34-25 (.576) on the road.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS (7-11, 1-6 PL):
- Loyola (Md.) is 2-8 (.200) over the last 10 games and are coming off a 60-59 setback to league opponent Lafayette Wednesday in Easton. Laura Salmeron scored a game-high matching 21 points with five rebounds, four three-pointers and four steals.
- Koi Sims is currently the Patriot League leader in rebounds per game (10.9) and rebounds (196) which ranks 10th and 13th in the NCAA respectively. Sims also has six double-doubles on the year, the second most in the conference.
- As a team, the Greyhounds struggle to convert their attempts at the free throw line. They rank 346th out of 353 teams in the NCAA in free throw percentage (60.0).
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- The Crusaders are 16-8 (.667) in the series history against the Greyhounds which began in 1990. Holy Cross is 7-4 (.636) against Loyola (Md.) at home in the Hart Center.
- In their last meeting on Jan. 2, 2025, the Crusaders picked up a 49-46 win on the road in Baltimore. Junior Simone Foreman had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
