WEST POINT, N.Y. – Four players scored in double-figures as the Holy Cross women's basketball team earned their fourth straight win, a 61-52 victory against Patriot League opponent Army West Wednesday morning in Christl Arena.
Reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, senior
Lindsay Berger scored a game-high 17 points with a contest-best seven rebounds on 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) shooting for the Crusaders (13-5, 6-1 PL). Sophomore
Kendall Eddy added 16 points with two three-balls. Juniors
Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly (11 points, seven rebounds) and
Kaitlyn Flanagan (11 points, eight assists, seven rebounds) had strong showings as well.
For Army (13-4, 5-2 PL), Fiona Hastick scored a team-best 13 points with six boards, three assists and two steals in 40 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Berger connected on her first two shots from the field for an early 4-2 Crusader lead. Eddy drilled a midrange jumper knotting the score 10-10. Army scored the final five points of the stanza to lead 15-10 through one.
- Trailing by six, 16-10, Donnelly sank a corner three at the 7:10 mark to put Holy Cross within three. Flanagan canned an isolation mid-range jumper right before the break which put her team down 22-20 at the intermission.
- Behind 27-26, Holy Cross put together a 12-3 run which included 10 straight points for an eight point 38-30 margin following a Berger jumper. The hosts cut the deficit in half 40-36 after three stanzas.
- Army doubled up the Crusaders 6-to-3 early in the fourth to trail by one 43-42 with 5:45 left to play. Holy Cross called a timeout and responded with six consecutive markers including an Eddy pull up three in transition to build a 49-42 advantage with 4:30 to go. An Army hoop and harm put them down three, 51-48. The Holy Cross lead stayed at three until Donnelly cashed home a big triple on the right wing with 2:26 left to open up a two possession lead, 56-50.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Berger appeared in her 100th career game.
- Sophomore Hannah Griffin played a career-high 14 minutes in the contest coming up with a personal-best four rebounds.
- Dating back to her freshman year, Flanagan has totaled four or more assists 43 times and the Crusaders are 33-10 (.767) in those games.
- 11 of Hasticks' 13 points came in the first quarter.
