WORCESTER, Mass. - Miami Marlins right-handed pitcher Declan Cronin, a 2019 Holy Cross graduate, was named the organization's 2024 Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) Rookie of the Year in a
pregame ceremony Friday evening.
Cronin currently leads all Marlins relievers with 69.1 innings pitched and is third on the team with 55 appearances. He has posted a 3-4 win-loss record with a 4.41 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP and 71 strikeouts. Cronin has allowed only one home run all season, and at one point faced 281 straight hitters without giving up a homer.
Throughout his four-year career on The Hill, Cronin tallied 156 strikeouts, 10th-most in program history, in 177.2 innings over 54 appearances. He was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll four times and was selected to the Patriot League All-Academic Team in 2019. He additionally earned the team's Robert T. Curran Leadership Award and received the
Patriot League's Outstanding Leadership and Character Award in 2019.
Cronin was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2019 in the
36th round as the 1,070th overall pick and became the first Crusader to play in the majors since 1977.
