WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team hosted UMass-Lowell, taking a 1-0 home opener win on Sunday, Aug. 25, marking their first home-opener win since the Spring 2021 season.
IN GOAL:
- Holy Cross: Julia Walsh (W, 1-2), 7 saves
- UMass-Lowell: Rachel Welch (L, 1-2), 4 saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team scored in the first half of the game with Walsh making 4 saves to Welch's 2.
- The Crusaders led the River Hawks 7-6 in shots while UMass-Lowell was ahead 3-2 in corners through 45 minutes.
- To kick off the second half, senior Allie Waters picked off a pass deep in River Hawk territory to drive in her first career goal at 45:40. The Crusaders put tough pressure on UMass-Lowell, holding them off until the final whistle for the 1-0 win.
- Holy Cross led UMass-Lowell with a 14-11 advantage in shots and both finished the contest with six corners apiece.
