WORCESTER, Mass. — Fourteen of Holy Cross' athletic teams have achieved a perfect score of 1,000 in the NCAA's academic performance standard, the Academic Progress Rate (APR). These 14 teams all had a perfect multi-year APR score (based on data from the 2019-2020 through 2022-2023 school years), which tied Holy Cross for sixth in the nation out of 361 Division I schools.
"Our stellar NCAA Academic Progress Rate reflects the commitment from the Holy Cross community to support the student-athlete model at an elite level, and we celebrate this outstanding achievement," said Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Rose Shea. "We are consistently grateful for the unwavering support our student-athletes receive from our faculty, coaches, staff and administration."
The APR uses a series of formulas related to student-athlete retention and eligibility to measure the academic performance of all participants on teams at every Division I college and university. This year's national average for all Division I institutions was 984.
The Crusader programs to post perfect multi-year APR scores were baseball, women's basketball, men's cross country, field hockey, men's golf, women's golf, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, men's indoor track and field, and men's outdoor track and field.
This is the third consecutive year of publicly reported APRs after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the Division I board approved the release of APR scores but voted to continue the suspension of program penalties. After further review, the Committee on Academics is not enforcing the loss of access to postseason competition for teams that have scored lower than 930. Instead, a conditional waiver is being offered this year due to lingering impacts of COVID-19.
