CUMBERLAND, R.I. — Senior
Declan O'Flynn posted victories in both singles and doubles action, but the Holy Cross men's tennis team was defeated by Boston University 4-2 at the Fore Court Racquet & Fitness Club. The Crusaders fall to 2-9 on the season, while the Terriers improve to 16-7 overall.
DOUBLES ACTION:
• Holy Cross claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
• At No. 1, junior
Jeremy Clark and freshman
Henry Winiecki downed Jakob Esterowitz and Johann Sajonz 7-6 (7-4).
• O'Flynn and senior
William Kelleher defeated Gustavs Dambins and Jose Maria Robalino 7-5 at No. 2.
SINGLES PLAY:
• O'Flynn picked up a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Jonah Dickson at No. 3.
• But Boston University won the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches to claim the overall victory.
THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:
• Throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, Holy Cross and Boston University will be competing for the Turnpike Trophy.
• This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school which accumulates the most points at the end of the year.
• Following today's match, the Terriers hold a 10-7 lead in this year's competition.
