LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Holy Cross softball team was defeated by Patriot League opponent Bucknell 3-1 Sunday afternoon on Becker Field.

The loss was the 35th overall on the year for the Crusaders and 14th in league play. The Bison move to 18-25 and level their conference record at 9-9.

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:

• Madison Roukey: W, (10-11), complete game, seven hits allowed, earned run, zero walks, five strikeouts.
• Sophomore Sophia Roncone: L, (5-18), complete game, seven hits allowed, three earned runs, two walks, two strikeouts.

STEPPING TO THE PLATE:

• Senior Morgan Jensen: 2-for-3, RBI.
• Freshman Emma Pietrzak: 2-for-3.
• Junior Callie Thibault: 1-for-3, run scored.
• Zoie Smith: 2-for-3, RBI, two stolen bases.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Bucknell got two runs in the home half of the first via an infield single to second and a sacrifice bunt for the early 2-0 edge.
• Holy Cross threatened in the top of the third when Jensen and sophomore Anna Brait singled to put runners at first and second. Bucknell thwarted the Crusader scoring threat.
• The Bison tacked on an insurance run in the sixth via a solo home run to push the lead to 3-0.
• In the seventh the Crusaders attempted a rally with a Thibault and Pietrzak single. With two outs, Jensen ripped an RBI base knock to center plating a run. The last batter of the game flew out as Holy Cross left two runners on base.

DUE UP:

• Holy Cross concludes their season next weekend when they take on Lafayette in a Patriot League series starting on Senior Day, May 4.
• First pitch of the doubleheader is set for noon.
