Softball sweeps Lafayette on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team made quick work of Patriot League opponent Lafayette on Senior Day Saturday shutting out the Leopards 1-0 in game one before earning an 8-1 victory in game two.

The two victories were the 12th and 13th overall and second and third in Patriot League play for the Crusaders as they bettered 2023 Patriot League win total (two wins). Lafayette falls to 5-36 with the pair of losses.

In a pregame ceremony, the Crusaders honored their four seniors Morgan Jensen, Jessica Mott, Claire McCann and Megan Yurchick for their contributions to the program and campus community.
McCann swung a hot bat in both games going 3-for-7 (.429) with a double and three RBI as the Crusaders mashed a total of six extra base hits across the two tilts.

During game one, sophomore Sophia Roncone tossed a complete game shutout allowing only one hit for the 19th complete game and fourth shutout of her career. It is the second time Roncone has tossed a complete game shutout one hitter during her time as a Crusader (April 12, 2023 vs. Merrimack).

In game two, Jessica Mott became the program's all-time leader with 63 walks passing Sam Fregenti (2010-2013) for the top spot. Sophomore Ali Sniegocki recorded her fifth home run of the season which tied four other Crusaders including assistant coach Kelliner Croushore for third place on the single season list. Megan Yurchick was a two way threat in the game two win going 2-for-3 with an RBI double at the dish and hurling a complete game victory in the circle. The complete game was the 25th of her career.
