WEST POINT, N.Y. – Junior
Isabela Miller totaled eight points on four goals and four assists, but the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team was defeated by Army West Point 17-16 at Michie Stadium. The Crusaders fall to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the Patriot League with the loss, while the Black Knights improve to 7-7 on the season and 5-2 in the conference.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior
Sally Zinsner finished the day with six points on three goals and three assists.
• Senior
Lauren Drillock added two goals and two assists, while junior
Ella Kittredge posted two goals and one assist.
• Army was led by Allison Reilly with six goals and two assists.
• The Black Knights finished the game with a 38-27 advantage in shots, while the Crusaders held a 21-13 edge in draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Army opened the game by jumping out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter.
• The Black Knights were still up by two (7-5) in the second quarter, when Holy Cross scored four of the next five goals to pull in front (9-8).
• The Crusaders went on to hold a 10-9 edge at halftime, and increased the margin to two (13-11) late in the third quarter.
• Army then scored six of the next seven goals, and led by three (17-14) with 4:25 left to play.
• Holy Cross responded with two goals to cut the deficit to one (17-16), but was unable to get a shot off on its final possession as the Black Knights held on for the win.
UP NEXT:
• Holy Cross will return to action on Saturday, April 20, when it plays host to No. 5 Loyola (Md.) at Fitton Field, beginning at 12 p.m.
