HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With the score tied at 1-1 early after the Bulldogs and Crusaders traded runs in the first and second inning, Yale jumped out to a 4-1 lead by the third inning.
  • Holy Cross rallied back in the fourth inning to even up the score. With the bases loaded, freshman catcher Van Coughlin drew a walk to make it a 4-2 game. Junior center fielder Connor Cooney then singled to center to drive in a pair of runs and knot things up.
  • Yale took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Crusaders continued to battle, loading up the bases on a pair of walks and an error. Freshman second baseman Alex Sandell then sent a triple to right field to clear the bases and put Holy Cross in the lead, 7-5.
  • The Bulldogs made it a 7-6 game in the bottom of the fifth after scoring on a wild pitch, and tacked on three runs in the sixth to take the lead back at 9-7.
  • Yale continued to pull away, with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to secure the 12-7 win.
DUE UP:
  • Holy Cross hosts Navy for a three-game series on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14.
  • First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Fitton Field.
