HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holy Cross struck fast in the top of the first when Yurchick drilled a two RBI single up the middle for the early 2-0 lead.
  • The Crusaders loaded the bases in the second and a Gambichler single to right added onto the margin at 4-0 through two frames.
  • In the home half of the third, NIU put a pair of runners in scoring position with two down and Roncone struck out a batter for the third out and to keep the Huskies scoreless.
  • A sacrifice fly RBI got the Huskies on the board in the fourth frame.
  • NIU got two runs in the bottom of the sixth to trim the deficit to one, 4-3.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, a lead-off walk coupled with an infield single and double to right center field leveled the score at 4-4 and kept two runners in scoring position with two outs. Holy Cross induced a strikeout, however and infield bunt single walked off the game for NIU.
