Three from women’s basketball earn Patriot League postseason honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Three Holy Cross women's basketball players earned 2023-24 Patriot League postseason awards, headlined by senior guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy's first team selection, the league office announced on Friday, March 8.

Senior forward Janelle Allen earned Patriot League third team honors, while senior guard Cara McCormack joined Allen on the third team.

This is the second straight year Power-Cassidy earned All-League postseason honors, as she was a second team selection a year ago. She has started and played in 27 games for the Crusaders and set new personal bests in scoring (16.6), rebounds per game (4.8), 3-pointers (65), field goals made (169) and minutes per game (33.0). The preseason All-Patriot League selection paces Holy Cross in scoring, 3-pointers, 3-point percentage (39.6), field goals made and minutes per game. In the conference rankings, the two-time Patriot League Player of the Week finished the regular season tied for first in the league in 3-pointers per game (2.4), and is third in scoring, third in 3-pointers, fourth in field goal percentage (45.2) and sixth in minutes per game.

In conference contests, the two-time team captain increased her production by leading the Patriot League in 3-point percentage (42.7), 3-pointers (50) and 3-pointers per game (2.8) while ranking second in scoring (18.0), fifth in field goal percentage (48.0) and tied for seventh in minutes per game (32.8).

In 2023-24, Power-Cassidy scored her 1,000th career point in the Hart Center Arena during a victory against Northeastern (Dec. 17) and climbed to fifth place on the program's career 3-pointer list with (181). She has scored 30+ points twice and has nine 20+ point efforts. Holy Cross is 7-2 (.778) when she scores 20 or more points this season.

Allen earns All-League honors for the second straight campaign. She has started in all 29 games for the Crusaders. The team captain is the squad leader in free throw conversions (66), is tied for second in scoring (10.2), and is second in blocks (0.8) and field goal conversions (115), third in rebounds (133), and fourth in rebounds per game.

Against UMass-Lowell (Nov. 13), Allen matched a career-high with 20 points on 8-of-14 (57.1) shooting to go with a personal-best matching 10 rebounds in a double-double effort in the Crusader win. On Senior Day at home versus Navy (Feb. 24), Allen matched her career-high in scoring with 20 markers in the Holy Cross victory. Allen has scored in double figures 14 times this season. She has scored 919 points in her Crusader career and has grabbed 443 rebounds.

McCormack collected her second-ever Patriot League postseason accolade after being named to the 2020-21 Patriot League All-Rookie Team. She is tied with Allen for second on the team in scoring (10.2), and is second in 3-pointers made (49), assists (93) and assists per game (3.2), third in made field goals (104) and minutes per game (31.6) and fourth in steals per game (0.7). This season, McCormack has set new personal bests in scoring, field goal, 3-pointer and free throw conversions, rebounds (93), assists, assists per game, blocks (6), steals (20) and minutes per game.  

In the Patriot League rankings, the team captain is tied for second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3), and is fifth in the league in assists and assists per game and seventh in 3-pointers and 3-pointers per game (1.7). She has recorded three or more assists 17 times, and the Crusaders are 12-5 (.706) in those contests. This season, McCormack scored a career-high 22 points in a conference win against Army (Jan. 6) and recorded her first career double-double, a 16 point and career-high 10 rebound effort, in the Senior Day win against Navy (Feb. 24). McCormack has scored 821 points in her Crusader career and has knocked down 138 3-pointers, just seven shy of the top 10 on the program's all-time list.

Holy Cross (17-12, 11-7 PL) clinched its 13th Patriot League regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2024 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women's Basketball Championship, and will play either No. 8 Bucknell or No. 9 American on Monday, March 11 in the Hart Center Arena at 7 p.m. for the quarterfinal round.
